Margaret Hamilton

Margaret Hamilton was born August 17th 1936 and is still alive. She obtained the Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at Earlham College. She was hired by MIT and was Director of the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory. She helped develop the Apollo programs guidance system. Hamilton has been credited with popularizing the concept of software engineering. Hamilton led the team that created the on-board flight software for NASA's Apollo command modules and lunar modules. For over five decades, Hamilton's methods have had a major impact on the field of software engineering up to and including the present day. Something I found interesting while researching Margaret Hamilton was that in 2016 she was awarded the presidential medal of freedom.
